Her Royal Highness's Traditional Festive Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with attendees featuring members of the royal family, famous faces, and community champions who have helped their communities.

The large audience will listen to a blend of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from actors such as Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Centred Around Kindness and Compassion

The focus of the service, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain cancer, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," Her Royal Highness stated in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her initial major address in two years, in which she discussed recognising the "quiet, often invisible work of caring".

Musical Talent and Access

Attendees entering the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, set up with the help of the former royal to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from southwest Wales, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature Saphia Turner, aged nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for community pantries.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been decorated with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
